Unobtrusive Indicators of Cultural Change

Neckties, Girdles, Marijuana, Garbage, Magazines, and Urban Sprawl

Gleaning information from diverse available data sets, Felson suggests ways in which numerous different sorts of time-series data sets can be used to identify cultural change and continuity. The proposed indicators include musical instruments, several types of clothing, sporting goods, drugs, garbage, telephones, and magazines.
