Simon Fraser University In this article, the author describes her experience in the Haida Gwaii, the Queen Charlotte Islands, and with the Haida people, a First Nation of North America; quotes participants in her study; and interweaves her narrative with reflective comments. The theme of the article is the interplay between life and work and how a culturally meaningful work has expanded the possibilities for the author's own human development. The aesthetic dimension is a critical aspect of this essay because the expression of beauty is important to the author and because the focus of her research is the role of the arts in the revitalization of indigenous societies.
