Researching White Racial Identity

A Methodological Story

KELLIE STODDART

Health Access Foundation

This article is about the methodological considerations that went into designing the author's first major research project about the learning that occurs for White women as they become aware of their racial identity. The author articulates her attempts to fashion a research project that was responsive to the needs of participants while trying to minimize the influence of the dominant paradigm. Meanwhile, as a researcher, she was firmly entrenched in the dominant paradigm.
